Although many people think Disco began in the seventies, it actually began in Paris during the 50’s (The Peppermint Lounge). Disc Jockeys began to provide the music for many clubs. Disco music is designed for making people move and have fun on the dance floor. Its driving beats almost have a hypnotic feel that makes you want to dance or at least stomp your feet to the beat. Many Disco songs lyrics are about dancing; ‘Dance, dance, dance’ and ‘Everybody Dance’ (Chic), ‘Come on Dance, Dance’ (Saturday Night Band), and ‘Dance yourself dizzy’ (Liquid Gold). During 1978, the film Saturday Night Fever starring John Travolta gave birth to the global phenomena that disco dancing has become. The tradition lives on here. Click here for everything Disco.
