LatinLatin or Salsa as its commonly reffered too, comes from a variety of influences and countries. The most obvious and credited country is Cuba, the birthplace of the cha-cha, songo, bombo, and many other styles. Puerto Rico contributed its own rich Caribbean influences as well as musicians such as Tito Puente and Celia Cruz. But, the origin of clave, the prominent beat in salsa, is from Africa originally. Salsa is rhythm and soul to the highest degree. The rhythm of salsa is probably the most recognizable trait. Later influences from Spain, the Caribbean, coupled with modern influences such as jazz and rock, have formed what we today call Latin or Salsa.
